Vehicle tracking seems to be playing up

I tried to contact the vehicle to see what state it was in, e.g. if it is window open, bonnet up it is usually in the workshop. Also, to see what its mileage was and therefore work out if it has had its road test yet.

The tracking seems to have become very unreliable. Will find out more when I speak on the phone.

It isn’t morning anymore

I was expecting a call back this morning.

Mainly just to know things were still on track and I should be getting the car back tomorrow. I have made the assumption this is the case and carried on to book a meeting on Thursday. I do hope it isn’t now going to slip and I have to rearrange things.

One of the benefits of having tracking on the vehicle is I can find out what the vehicle is up to. The tracking application (Jaguar Remote control) now seems to be playing up. It seems somewhat unreliable. However, it does seem to indicate that the vehicle has used almost zero fuel and done only 1 mile since Wednesday last week. It seems to have spent almost all of today parked and locked.

Service Progress

Not wishing to ‘nag’ the dealer, but I could do with planning the remainder of my week. Knowing when I get my car back would help with that.

Accordingly I gave them a call. I didn’t get a call back so rang again.

I will get an update in the morning, but at present they are expecting it to be complete as planned.

Call back!

My case manager at JLR did call back, just as promised (6 minute call).

He had spoken to Stratstone (where the car is now), and also contacted the suppling dealer. The named contact at the supplying dealer is going to call my case manager back (I suspect we may be in a for a wait).

Case manager will find out more on Thursday (after I am supposed to have my vehicle back).

Now in an XE

Loan car taken back up to the dealers.

To save my time, I have been swapped in to a diesel XE AWD.

Not too bad a car, but nothing like the XF.

One think to note in having several loan vehicles this week is, they are all ‘better behaved’ than mine. Some is subjective, but the air-con works and the stop/start behaves in a more rational manner. The EPB also appears more rational.

Decided to cancel the weekend trip.

“Do not wash”

Not wishing to come over a bit weird, but on looking at the loan car this morning, I thought it was badly scratched for a 1 year old car. I guess it gets a lot of washing as this will get done every time it is in/out on loan.

However, as a safety measure, I think not washing mine whilst it is in would be a good plan.

On closer inspection of the loan vehicle, I find a large chunk out of the NSR tyre. The NSF has a cut also.

So, email dealer to tell then, plus add a ‘do not wash’ instruction.

Later in the day, I took the vehicle down to the local tyre supplier. Though they knew it was a loaner and they were not getting an order for a new tyre – his view was ‘he wouldn’t drive it far’.

Called dealer who said they would swap tyre or car tomorrow if I brought it back.

Okay, these thinks happen, but it is another few hours out of my day.

In the dealer’s again – 8th August

Vehicle has been dropped off for 12 items to be looked at.

I have been given a loan car for the week – a diesel XF AWD estate.

Loan car is a decent spec., but doesn’t have the same toys as mine. It should however, be fine for a weekend trip we are planning.

Still Hot

Though the air conditioning is running, it just isn’t bringing the cabin temperature down.

After a half hour drive, with an outside temperature of 28 degrees, a target temperature of 19.5 degrees and all windows and sunroof shut – we still have a cabin temperture of 25.0 degrees. The measurement point is in the free air near the console (temperature probe below has only a 6″ cable on the sensor).

After another half hour (the return journey), the cabin temperature is slightly up at 25.8 degrees.

To be fair, the vent temperature is low, around 14 degrees, but there isn’t sufficient air flow to cool the cabin.

Boot lid won’t stay shut (again)

When aproaching the locked car with shopping, you should be able to open the boot with the button on the boot lid… This should open the boot but leave the vehicle locked… so far so good.

However, when trying to close the boot, it automatically opens again. This is despited being standing right next to it with the key in the nearest pocket. Again it is like the vehicle can’t read the key.

You can simulate this behaviour by ‘hiding’ the key a distance away from the car before trying to shut the boot – that would probably be correct, but with the key in you pocket next to the boot lid is not correct.

Seat goes in to crush mode again

Whilst getting in to the car after a quick trip to the local shop, the seat decided to power forwards in to its minimum position.

This pushed my knees in to the dash again.

I supose that if you work out what is happening fast enough you can tuck your legs out of the way to stop the compression, but before you have realised it isn’t going to stop, you are already compressed.

Pressing the Memory 1 button, restored the normal seat position.

It seems that it misreads the key and goes for some minimum position by default.
